Time ManagementTime Management

Is How We Organize Our Life

No matter how smart or how rich you are, you never get more than 24 hours in a day.  How you organize your time is key.

If you struggle with time management, you are not alone.  I  can be easily distracted and if I do not stick to the strategy below or my day will disappear before I know it.  So it is important for me to have time management tools that can keep me on track

Here is my list of time management tips:

  • At the end of your day, make a list of what you need to do the next day.  This will make it easier to start your day on track.   I have found that this actually helps me sleep better because I am not afraid I will forget something important.

  • Instead of spreading your energy in 5 different directions, focus on one project at a time and complete it.

  • Beware of time robbers in your life.  Facebook, phone, TV, etc.  Understand how these can waste your time.  Accomplish what is on your list before engaging in these activities.

  • Find your personal rhythm.  Get yourself into the grove by allowing your life to have rhythm.  Your rhythm is determined by energy level, alertness, body temperature and your sleep patterns every day.  Recognize when your peek times of the day are and capitalize  on that.   The highest performers are those that are in sync with their own personal ebbs and flows.

  • Set a routine.  The best way to master time management skills is to have a plan, and write it down,  when you write your plans down, you are more likely to stick to them.

  • Break large projects into smaller projects that can be accomplished in one day.  Be sensible with your time management.  When the projects are smaller, you feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

  • Don’t take own someone else’s work.  Proper time management demands that you delegate to the appropriate people even if you think you could do a better job.

  • Reward yourself.  With better time management, you are going to free up extra time during the day.  Don’t forget to allow quality “Me” time.  Giving yourself time will recharge your batteries.

    Hey Gordon,
Thanks for stopping by. I have many time killers in my life that I have to avoid. Facebook is an infection that I have no cure for other than limiting my time on it. Have a great day!

Thank you Denys. When I first learned to make a list the night before I was amazed at how much better I slept. Thanks for sharing!

Oh- I’m so with you on breaking it down, and writing it down the night before. I found by doing this – it keeps me focus and I get so much more done. thanks for your list.

  4. Great tips Susie!
The starting point of everyone having the same 24 hours is a telling one.

I like the idea of writing as list the night before, as it then becomes ‘task’ management which in itself can help with ‘time’ management.

As for the time killers, I did read a book title which was ‘Never Check Emails In The Morning’. I can see the logic of having to complete something first – again that goes back to task management.

    Thanks for the reminders!
    Cheers,
    Gordon
