It’s The Little Things In Life – Small Wonders

Small Wonders, By Susie Brown

The most meaningful times in our life can be the smallest of things.  But what if………you were the small thing?

What if …you were only 10 inches tall navigating the large things in this life?  What if …you suddenly found yourself alone in this big world, away from the safety of your family and secret island?  How would you survive?  Read this book and experience it through Tina’s eyes.

Small Wonders, novel, Susie Brown, christian romance, fiction, discovery of tiny people,Small Wonders Excerpt from Chapter Five:

Tina’s rumbling stomach woke her to the smell of frying bacon. At first, she thought she had fallen asleep at Mr. Waid’s house again, but she soon realized that her nightmare on the mainland continued. Thinking it strange for the woman to be cooking before the sun even came up, Tina yawned and sat up. She peeked out from under the bed skirt and was instantly met with brilliant sunlight streaming in through the window. Looking back under the bed, she thought to herself, “Wow, it’s really dark under here.”

It’s nice to know she had such a good place to hide, but the smell of food and the lure of the sunshine beckoned her out of hiding.  Very carefully, she ran to stand behind the bedroom door and peek through the slit. Scanning the room for anyone, she ran into the next room and darted behind one of the small houses. Finally, she reached the room next to the kitchen and behind another door. She could see the woman at work cooking. She hoped her growling stomach did not alert the woman to her presence, but the woman was chattering away to her dog.

Dog! Tina had forgotten about that. She really needed to be more careful and extra quiet, or she might become a chew toy for the little hairball. She could see the dishes on the floor for the dog’s food and water.  The dog just turned up her nose at it and watched with impatience at the woman cooking her own breakfast. “All right, all right, you can have some, but first you need to go outside and take care of business.” Tina watched as she let the dog out the back door. If only she could get to the food that the dog turned her nose up at. It might not look good to the spoiled pooch, but to Tina, it was a feast. Now she had to find a way to get over there and get some before the woman let the dog back in. Crawling along under the overhang at the bottom of the kitchen cabinets, Tina neared the dish of food. Suddenly a large piece of scrambled egg hit the floor right by the woman’s foot. She heard the woman mutter to herself, “What a treat for her when she comes back in,” and she just left it there on the floor.

Her mouth watering, Tina contemplated how she could get a bite without the woman’s seeing her. Just then, the woman took her plate to the table and sat down in a chair with her back to Tina. Bev sat there eating while overlooking her garden in the backyard. Tina almost wilted with relief. She stretched out and grabbed the warm piece of egg, sat back under the overhang with her knees up tight against her chest, and devoured the unexpected meal. It was delicious, and she couldn’t believe her good fortune. At least she didn’t have to eat dog food this time. This nourishing morsel of food was just enough to satisfy her hunger. She said a silent prayer of thanks. Somehow, she felt a sense of peace; perhaps she was safer here than on the streets…..
